How to Prepare Your Home for a Deep Clean

Share:
Clean, organized home interior

Hiring a professional cleaning crew is an investment in your home — and like any investment, a little preparation pays dividends. The better prepared your home is before we arrive, the more time we can spend on the actual deep cleaning rather than sorting through clutter or navigating around obstacles.

Declutter Before the Crew Arrives

This is the single most impactful thing you can do. Cleaning crews clean surfaces — they don't organize or put things away. If countertops are covered in mail, dishes, or miscellaneous items, we'll have to move everything to clean underneath it, which takes time away from deep-cleaning tasks like scrubbing grout, wiping baseboards, or getting into corners.

  • Clear kitchen countertops completely
  • Pick up clothes, toys, and items from floors
  • Clear bathroom counters and the shower floor
  • Remove items from under beds if you want those areas cleaned
  • Put dishes in the dishwasher or away

Communicate Any Problem Areas

If there are specific areas you're concerned about — a stain on the carpet, hard water buildup in the shower, or grease on the range hood — let us know before we start. Some issues need specific products or longer dwell time, and knowing in advance means we can address them properly instead of discovering them mid-job.

Note about fragile items: If you have valuable or fragile items in areas that will be cleaned, either put them away or point them out. We're careful, but it's always better to have that conversation upfront.

Secure Pets

For the safety and comfort of both your pets and our crew, please secure animals before we arrive. Even friendly dogs can become anxious around strangers in their home, and open doors during cleaning can be an escape risk. A bedroom, crate, or yard works well for the duration of the visit.

Make Sure We Can Get In

Parking, access, and utilities all matter. Make sure there's parking near the entrance, let us know the door code or arrange to let us in, and confirm that hot water is available. We bring our own supplies, but we do need access to water and power.

After the Clean

When we're done, do a walkthrough with us if you're home. This is the best time to point out anything you'd like us to revisit or that we may have missed. We want you to be completely satisfied with the work, and it's much easier to address concerns on the spot than after the crew has packed up and left.

Deep Clean vs. Regular Clean: What's Included?

  • Deep clean includes: interior appliances, inside cabinets (if requested), baseboards, window sills, light fixtures, ceiling fans, door frames, and inside windows
  • Regular maintenance clean covers: surfaces, floors, bathrooms, kitchen counters, and vacuuming
  • Move-in/move-out clean: everything from the deep clean list, with extra focus on appliances and inside all storage spaces
